Being in control of computers on your network has become an absolute essential. With Internet access, E-mails and confidential data on your network, you ABSOLUTELY have to be in control.
THE ACTION-BOX is a Linux server, with a Graphic User Interface (GUI) that enables you to work with the machine like you would work with a Windows based machine. You have the option to connect a screen to this server, or alternatively you can access the server from your Desktop in your office. Administration of the server can be done by either Web based access, or Remote Desktop connection to the server.
SERVER FUNCTIONALITY
The primary function of the server will be that as a FILE SERVER that will store information users are working with in a SHARED location on the server. The user files on the hard drive will also be backed up daily to a detachable USB hard drive.
All PC on the client’s network will have a WINDOWS DOMAIN LOGON requiring each employee to have his/her own username and password. This will allow an employee to access his/her documents from ANY of the computers in the office by simply logging on with their username and password. Apart from the shared company files/folder on the server, each user will have their own directory space on the server where they can safely store their own information.
All Internet browsing will be censored by the server ensuring that no downloads can be done from any of the office PCs, as well as no pornography can get through on Internet Explorer. The client will also be able to view detailed reports of Internet usage per user on the network, as well as manually restrict access to websites.
The server also acts as a firewall for the entire network ensuring limited and authenticated access to the network through the Internet.
As business owner you will be able to see individual usage reports on your network per computer user, including the times they are online and most frequently visited website etc.
SERVER APPLICATIONS
The Server will be installed and configured with the following software applications:
- Suse
- Firewall
- Squid
- Dansguardian
- Samba Server
- File Server for Windows workstations
- Webmin
The server can be accessed by any workstation outside the office through a web-based control panel and SSH
Network and Server Administration
The server will be accessible via a web-based interface that will allow administration of the particular applications on the server. The Service provider will offer remote and on-site (where possible) support for the maintenance of the network and/or server. Please select an appropriate support option when you add this product.
We offer the ActionBox server solution to you at a price of R2 500, NOT INCLUDING the actual hardware. Depending on your network, a normal desktop computer with a minimum of 1 Gb RAM can be converted into a ActionBox. You have the option to supply us with a machine to convert, or alternatively we will quote you seperately on the supply of a new computer.
